Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine is Well Prepared for the Upcoming Regulation of TCM

March 2005

Toronto, Ontario - The Ontario Government is enhancing protection for Ontarians who use traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, with public consultation on the best and safest way to regulate practitioners. Four MPPs chaired by Tony Wong are holding consultations between April 16th and 30th, their report being due April 15th, before legislation is introduced. The McGuinty government is fulfilling an election promise to regulate traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. It is estimated there are up to 2000 practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine and 1500 regulated health practitioners who also provide acupuncture in Ontario.

The Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine supports the regulation of the profession and has been working hard to provide the most comprehensive professional training in Canada, to ensure the quality of the graduates, and to ensure that the public receives safe and effective TCM services. The TSTCM curriculum meets professional licensing standards for acupuncturists, TCM herbalists, Asian body-work therapists and doctors of TCM. TSTCM graduates are qualified to take licensing exams in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec in Canada, and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and oriental Medicine in the United States. TSTCM students are studying hard and will be well prepared when the regulation is in place.

Instructors teaching at TSTCM are all formally trained TCM doctors with many years of teaching and clinical experience. They are all very enthusiastic about passing their knowledge and skills to the students.

TSTCM's schedule is flexible to meet individual needs, with full-time intensive schedules, or part -time schedules with weekend and evening courses.

The Teaching Clinic offers the opportunity for students to perfect their knowledge and skills, and also provides high-quality TCM services to the local community.
