Course Description: A large number of patients seeking TCM treatment are already taking prescription drugs. This course familiarizes students with the use of pharmaceuticals in modern medicine. The course presents an outline of the existing drug groups and the fundamentals of drug chemistry, with detailed descriptions of the actions, indications and side effects of commonly prescribed western medicine. It also covers the general principles of pharmacology, pharmaceutical dosage form, site of action, factors modifying drug effects, how drugs interact, adverse drug reactions and common abbreviations used in medical orders, etc.
